WARRENTON - Hood River's Herbie Annala shot a four-over par 76 to lead the Eagles to a team championship Monday in the Seaside Invitational Golf Tournament.
The Gulls hosted the meet at the Astoria Golf & Country Club, and finished third with a 338, behind Hood River (319) and Estacada (331).
Despite no-shows Rainier and Scappoose, 10 teams took part in the invite, including Madras and The Dalles (tied for fourth at 340); Astoria (sixth, 342), Tillamook (345), Molalla (347), Toledo (349) and Banks (393).
Annala finished just one shot ahead of Estacada's Cody Bender and Tillamook's Dylan Marcum, who each finished with a 77. Bender placed second, as he birdied the second hole of a playoff with Marcum.
Astoria's Digger Cokley fired a 78 for fourth place.
The top golfer for Seaside was Joel Bletscher, who carded an 83. Teammates Peter DeLong and Sean Hamer were right behind with a pair of 84s.
Hamer had an eagle on the 15th hole, while DeLong was competing on varsity for the first time this season, replacing Flynn Jiroudek, who had a prior commitment.
As the Gulls' fifth golfer, DeLong responded with a career-best, which included a 38 on the back nine.
Hunter Solt had an 87, and Mitch Winstanley shot a 94.
"We're pleased that we were still able to finish third, without our top golfer," said Seaside coach Jim Poetsch. "Peter stepped in and had a great day."
Also competing for Astoria was Ryan Gallagher, who finished with an 81. Gallagher had a 37 on the back nine, with an eagle on No. 12.
Astoria's Johnny Wilson had an 89, followed by teammates Andy Ellsberg (94) and Greg Barnes (103).
The Fishermen host Rainier Thursday, while the Gulls host Banks. Both matches begin at 2 p.m.
