The Lower Columbia Youth Soccer Association is holding tryouts for winter/spring soccer from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Warrenton Soccer Complex.

Teens interested in participating should come prepared for a brief scrimmage and registration.

Winter/Spring soccer is open to high school age players. Age divisions are U-15 (birth dates on or after Aug. 1, 1987) up to U-18 (birth dates on or after Aug. 1, 1984).

The Winter/Spring soccer season runs from Feb. 8 to April 6.

Astoria Jiu-Jitsu students compete in EugeneEUGENE - Oregon Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu students competed in the Megaton sport Jiu-Jitsu tournament Nov. 9 at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

Competitors from the Jiu-Jitsu school of Astoria had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills while competing with some of the top Jiu-Jitsu schools of Oregon and Washington.

In the Kids division (ages 8-13), Casey Harrington of Seaside took first place, while his brother Kyle Harrington took second place.

The two ended up in the championship match of their division, with Casey compiling seven points to Kyle's five.

Alex Dustin of Astoria took second place in the 14-16-year-old division, while Allison Fowler of Long Beach, Wash. placed third in her division.

Also competing were Brandon Vandenberg and Zack Loveridge of Astoria. Nick Unander-Scharin is the head instructor at the Oregon Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school.

WHS alumni hoops tourney setTournament organizers are looking for graduates of Warrenton High School, who may want to take part in an alumni basketball tournament, Jan. 4 and 5 at the high school.

The tournament will include men's and women's divisions.

Entry forms can be picked up at Warrenton High School or Fultano's/Budweiser in Warrenton.

The cost is $10 per player, and the registration deadline is Dec. 16.
