JEWELL - Playing the first game of the year using the new volleyball scoring system, Columbia Christian defeated Jewell 25-17, 25-11, 25-17 on the Bluejays' home floor Thursday night.

Rene Steinweg had four blocks for Jewell, but it wasn't enough as the Jays dropped their season opener.

Jewell coach Cathy Rozinek said the scoring system change (best 3-of-5, rally scoring to 25 points and no sideouts) "didn't make much difference.

"It doesn't really shorten the game, and it really makes you focus on serving," she said. A missed serve is now a point for the receiving team.
