MONMOUTH — It was obviously not the kind of start the Astoria summer baseball team wanted in the Junior State Baseball state tournament Thursday.

Thurston scored 11 runs in the first inning, on its way to a 19-2 win over Dane Gouge’s Astoria Ford team, knocking the Fishermen into the consolation bracket after one day.

With a temperature of 95 degrees at game time, Astoria Ford scored one run in the top of the first before the Colts responded with 11 runs in their first at-bat, and seven more runs in the third inning. Astoria was limited to just four hits on the day.

The Fishermen play a consolation game (opponent to be determined) at noon today at Crescent Valley High School.
