GLADSTONE - The Knappa cross country teams - such as they are - competed well in the district preview meet Monday at Portland Adventist.

Knappa did not field a complete girls team, but still had three runners competing. The Knappa boys placed second with 37 points behind Wahtonka (24). Portland Lutheran won the girls' team title with 25 points, followed by Neah-Kah-Nie (38) and Portland Adventist (68).

The girls' race was won by Warrenton's Rebecca Fisk 23:35 minutes, with Wahtonka runners taking the top three spots in the boys' race.

Knappa's Toivo Fransen was fourth with 18:41 and teammate Nick Jacobson (fifth, 18:46) close behind.

Also not far off the pace were Knappa's Curtis Olds (seventh, 19:34), Brad Salisbury (10th, 20:05) and sophomore Brentin Salisbury (11th, 20:05).

Blake Gerttula (20:25) was 13th, and Steven Maki placed 17th in 21:07.

Knappa freshman Paul Isom was second in the junior varsity race (21:48), with Matt Acuna (11th, 25:11) and Jordan Shear (13th, 25:19) also running.

The Logger girls were led by a pair of freshmen. Amanda Nichols placed ninth in 26:57, and Kirsty Coghill took 11th in 27:01. Kristina Johnson was 23rd in 29:42.

Knappa will take part in the Rainier Invitational Thursday.
