KNAPPA - Nestucca, Sheridan, Sherman County and Warrenton met for a five-way wrestling meet at Knappa Saturday afternoon, with the Loggers and Warriors coming up with plenty of wins.

Knappa's Austin Hunsinger won all three of his bouts at 160 pounds, finishing his day with an 11-3 decision over Nestucca's Brian Costa in the third round of wrestling.

Earlier, Hunsinger had pins over Kurt Sorensen of Nestucca and Steven Scott of Sherman County.

Logger teammate Gary Newberry also had a big day, with three victories, all by pin.

At 130 pounds, Newberry began his day with a first-round pin over Sherman County's Jesse Borstel, followed by a third-round pin over Nestucca's Jesse Craven.

Newberry capped his day with a final-round pin over Warrenton's Brett Birman at 135.

Other wrestlers with three victories included Knappa's Jared Roe at 171 and 189, and Warrenton's Rick Walters at 171.

Timon Haynes of Warrenton had a second-round pin over Knappa's Adam Barnes in the day's final round, and Warrior teammate Andy Forney scored an 11-8 decision over Knappa's James Hughes in the final round at 215.

Forney also had a pin over Sheridan's Kevin McMahon.

Warrenton's Alex Dustin had a pair of victories at 140, starting with a pin over Sheridan's Justin Hinchcliff, followed by a pin over Nestucca's Mike Ryan.

Knappa's James Hughes had two victories at 215 pounds, and the Loggers' Harry Robertson pinned two of his opponents at 160.

Osborn outstanding wrestler

MOLALLA - Astoria's Travis Osborn was named the Outstanding Wrestler of a tournament at Molalla Saturday as the Fishermen finished fourth out of eight teams.

Banks won the tourney with 77 points, followed by Rainier with 59.

Osborn had Astoria's only individual title, winning the championship at 135 pounds.

Elsewhere, Astoria's Josh Kindred was second at 103, and Bert Tucker placed second at 275.

Kent Russell (160) and Jeff Crowley (215) both had third-place showings, and Tyler Johnson took fourth at 189.

The Fishermen dropped a dual meet at Banks Friday.

Astoria hosts a Cowapa League dual meet with Scappoose Thursday.
