Over the weekend a large group of Seaside grade school aged students played in a basketball tournament in Vernonia. Boys and girls from grades four through six along with five coaches traveled the treacherous roads to Vernonia to give the kids an opportunity for fun competition.

“We brought 5th grade Girls, 6th grade girls, 6th grade boys, 5th grade boys, and a 4th grade boys team to the tournament,” said Bill Westerholm. “Other than the icy roads families and teams had a great time. The 6th grade boys won the tournament beating the Warrenton boys. The 4th grade boys won 3rd place in the tournament beating the Seaside 5th grade team. On the girls side the 6th grade girls beat the 5th grade girls in the championship. All of the coaches volunteers.”

The coaches include Brandon Olsen and Matt Clark for the 6th grade boys; Brian Babbitt for the 6th grade girls; Tom Lewis and Michael Smith for the 5th grade boys; Jeannine Westerholm and Darrin Ideau for the 5th grade girls; and Frank Januik and Byron Thompson for the 4th grade boys.
