KNAPPA — The Knappa boys basketball team scored over 80 points for the fourth time this season, on its way to another easy Northwest League victory Tuesday night, 89-52 over Neah-Kah-Nie.

Senior Dale Takalo — a legitimate state Player of the Year candidate — topped the Loggers with 34 points, followed by Eli Takalo with 18.

Knappa led just 20-16 after one quarter, but outscored the Pirates 55-20 over the next two quarters.

“We pressed ‘em and kind of diced them up with our defense, got the turnovers and that led to a lot of layups,” said Knappa coach Chris Spencer, whose team is still ranked third in the state at the 2A level. “Our defense really set things up for the offense.”

Knappa plays Thursday at Vernonia, a team Knappa defeated 69-48 earlier in the season.
