WARRENTON — The Warrenton girls basketball team is tuned up for a big stretch run to close out the regular season, following a big, 42-37 victory Tuesday over Portland Adventist.

Warrenton’s Claire Bussert made two free throws with 2:29 left, and those two points gave the Warriors an insurmountable 38-36 lead on their way to the win.

Tyla Little added two free throws with 26 seconds remaining, and Fernanda Alvarez tacked on a score at the buzzer for the final two points.

The Warriors led 14-4 early, but in their final league appearance at Warrenton, the Cougars rallied and tied the game at 36-36 with just under three minutes remaining.

Following a timeout, Bussert made two free throws and the Warriors held Portland Adventist to just one point the remainder of the game.

Bussert led the Warriors with 18 points, which included a big 3-pointer to end the third period. Little finished with 17.

Warrenton has five league games remaining. The Warriors’ next four opponents have a combined 11-35 record, before they host De La Salle in the league finale.
