Loggers fifth at the Bash

OCEAN SHORES, Wash. — Knappa was once again the only Oregon school in a Washington wrestling meet, as the Loggers took part in the “Bash at the Beach” tournament, Saturday at Ocean Shores, Wash.

Knappa finished fifth in the team scoring with 117 points, behind Montesano, Klahowya, Hoquiam and Aberdeen.

Individually, the Loggers had two champions, as Ryan Simpson won the title at 138 pounds, and Nate Truax won at 195.

Simpson went 4-0, with two pins and two decisions. He beat both the No. 1 and 2-seeded wrestlers in his weight bracket, both state qualifiers.

Truax was 2-0, winning the championship match 9-1.

Elsewhere, Cody Hobbs (3-1, with three pins) was third at 106, and Chris Cruz (2-1) took third at 170.

“Considering the only schools that placed higher than us team-wise were much larger schools, we did extremely well,” said Knappa coach Dan Owings. “We only had six scoring wrestlers for the team.”
