Astoria’s Lexxi Lyngstad had a three-run, bases-loaded double in the fourth inning, but that’s where the scoring ended for the Lady Fishermen in a nonleague softball game Monday with Clatskanie at CMH Field.
The Tigers and freshman pitcher Shelby Blodgett defeated Astoria 8-3, handing the Fishermen their third straight loss to open the season. Astoria was coming off a 2-1 loss at North Marion last Friday, in which the Fishermen held a 1-0 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
Still, “we’re slowly improving,” said Astoria coach Kent Israel, Jr. “Only three of our starters are at the same position they were last year. Against North Marion, we had one senior and two juniors in the lineup. The rest were freshmen and sophomores.”
Astoria’s Hailey Ranta had two hits, including a double, in Monday’s loss.
Blodgett and Kaity Sizemore combined on a four-hitter for the Tigers, with 10 strikeouts and five walks.
The Tigers had 12 hits, two apiece for their top four hitters in the lineup. Kalani Ausmus and Trinity Hamm each had a triple, while Olivia Sprague, Alexis Smith and Olivia Warren scored two runs each.
