The Lower Columbia 12-year-old All-Stars had an official send-off in Astoria this morning as they headed out of town to play in the 2011 Cal Ripken Major/60 World Series.

The All-Stars are one of 10 teams taking part in the tournament, which begins Thursday at River Way Sports Park in Visalia, Calif.

Lower Columbia coach Pat O’Brien and the team are pumped.

Keeping their arms warmed up are pitchers Fridtjof Fremstad, Kirk Fausett and Ole Englund. ”We start Fritz, then go to Kirk, then Ole,” said their coach.

The fundraising is also good. In fact, “it’s going great,” said the coach. “It’s incredible. The community was supportive for Regionals, and there’s even more support now.”
