East 48, West 6BAKER CITY - Mike Pagnotta of Illinois Valley scored two touchdowns to lead the East to a 48-6 win over the West, in the 52nd annual Shrine All-Star game at Bulldog Memorial Stadium in Baker City Saturday.

Pagnotta also ran for a game-high 150 yards on 14 carries. Five different players scored touchdowns and the defense added a safety for the East, while the West committed five turnovers in the loss.

The West squad was coached by Warrenton's John Mattila, while the Warriors' Nate McBride also took part in the game.

Tye Hiatt of Vale also scored two touchdowns for the East squad, one on a 33-yard pass from Nyssa's Trent Holcomb and the other on a 13-yarder from Matt Buche of Myrtle Point.

Buche completed all five of his passes for 78 yards. The East racked up 439 yards in total offense, while holding the West to 187.

On the West's third play of the game, Powder Valley's Todd Baxter made a big hit on West receiver Tim Kirsch of Madras, after Kirsch had caught a 14-yard pass from McBride.

Kirsch fumbled the ball, and the East's Ricky Howe (Sweet Home) recovered on the West 32, the first of five West turnovers.

The West scored its lone touchdown in the first quarter, when Estacada's Craig O'Meara capped a nine-play, 77-yard drive with a one-yard run.

It was McBride who keyed the drive, as the former Warrior connected on a 17-yard pass to Taft's Dom Hindman, then ran for 13 yards to the East 22.

A personal foul penalty on the East for tackling McBride out of bounds on the play moved the ball to the 11, and O'Meara scored four plays later. For the game, McBride was 8-of-18 passing for 84 yards.

The annual Shrine game - which caps a week of festivities and events for all participants - showcases graduated players from Oregon's Class 3A, 2A and 1A high schools. The East now leads the series, 26-23-3.
