SALEM - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife released its Fall Hunting Forecast. Based on surveys by staff biologists, the report offers hunters a good look at what to expect this fall.

The forecast can be accessed on ODFW's Web site through a link on the front page under What's New or at the following location:

In the forecast, hunters can learn how big game (deer, elk, cougar, bear) and game bird (upland birds and waterfowl) populations are doing in areas statewide. Staff biologists also offer tips on how to hunt and where to go hunting.

NEW FOR THIS YEAROregon Hunting Access Map

Hunters have a great tool to explore locations to hunt in the state through the Oregon Hunting Access Map. Even experienced Oregon hunters are likely to discover a new hunting location by exploring the comprehensive list of opportunities in a centralized place. The Google Map technology makes it easy to customize the map to your liking and even scout from home.

Mandatory ReportingThis year, hunters are required to complete a hunter harvest survey online or by calling (866) 947-ODFW (6339) and using the automated phone system. Do the report for each and every big game tag you purchase (except for bighorn sheep and Rocky Mountain goat tags) and for your turkey tags, even if you were not successful. Keep in mind you may still get a call from ODFW's telephone survey for data comparison purposes.

By completing the mandatory hunter report, you are providing key pieces of information that biologists will use in their game management. Your report supports the agency's goal of optimizing recreational opportunities for all hunters. ODFW thanks hunters for their cooperation.
