WARRENTON — The annual Oregon Coast Invitational is off and running, after weekend qualifying at the Astoria Golf & Country Club.

Anthony Arvidson won medalist honors Saturday in the Grand Champions division of the Invitational, which tees off its 102nd tournament today at the Country Club.

Arvidson fired a 69 to capture medalist honors, followed by Christiaan Thorne with a 70.

Chris Shepard of Mint Valley was the 2011 Grand Champion, and returns to defend his title, along with Mike Brands (Junior/Seniors), Mike Graham (going for his fifth straight championship in the Seniors division) and Bill Weed (Super Seniors).

Defending Women’s champion Kat Gerrish will not compete this year, while the 2011 runner-up, Cappy Mack Gray, won medalist honors Sunday with an 80.

Gray won a playoff for medalist with sister Nikki Mack.

Other medalists from a weekend of qualifying include Columbia Edgewater’s Steve Roos, who posted a 68 in the Junior/Seniors; Ray Grubbs won a four-way playoff at 77 to capture medalist honors in the Seniors division; and Jon Palmberg took top honors for the Super Seniors (75).

Match play in the 102nd OCI begins this morning in the Grand Champions and Junior/Seniors divisions, and action continues every day through Saturday at the Astoria Golf & Country Club.
