The Clatsop County Safety Council held its first golf tournament May 5 at Gearhart Golf Links. The purpose of the tournament is to raise college scholarship funds for local students. Organizers would like this to be an annual event.

Local contract loggers and other sponsors in the area contributed $5,000 toward students in Clatsop County schools for college scholarships.

Coming in first place was a team from associated Oregon Loggers, followed by a team from Eric Hepler Construction and a combined team from Nygaard Logging and O'Brien Timber Falling.

Clatsop County Safety Council consists of contractors from the forest products industry. Several years ago, the group voted to help high school students that wanted to attend college and major in courses that would benefit the logging industry.
