It’s becoming a tradition like no other – the Seaside girls golf team at the state tournament.

The Gulls qualified as a team for the eighth straight year, and finished the 2012 tournament with a fourth-place trophy, their highest finish since taking second in 2001.

In all, Seaside has qualified for the Class 4A or 3A State Tournament 14 times in 15 years (missing only the 2004 tournament), with five Top 5 finishes since 1998. They also finished second in 1993.

With three of their five golfers returning next year, including district champion Katy Kawasoe, the Gulls should continue the tradition in 2013.

Meanwhile, the Gulls can say they’re No. 1 off the course in 2012. Seaside topped all Class 4A girls golf teams in Grade Point Average, finishing with a cumulative 3.79 GPA.

The Seaside boys ranked fifth in the state with a 3.45 GPA.
