GRESHAM - Seaside's Carlie Gilligan had a pair of fifth-place finishes and teammate Stephanie Hanthorn added a sixth place for the Lady Gulls, who managed to score five points in the Class 4A/3A/2A/1A portion of the state swim meet, held Thursday and Friday at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham.
Gilligan took fifth in the 200-yard individual medley final (2 minutes, 23.87 seconds), then finished her day with a fifth-place showing in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:14.21).
Hanthorn swam a 1:01.24 for sixth in the 100-yard freestyle final.
Marist won the girls team title with 66 points, while the Gulls finished in a three-way tie for 12th with Baker and Newport. Sweet Home scored 64 points to awin the boys' title.
The Astoria girls and the Astoria and Seaside boys all came up short of qualifying swimmers for the finals.
In Thursday's preliminaries, Hanthorn was eighth in the 200-yard freestyle (2:11.80), while Seaside's Travis Cockcroft, Cody Mahar-Kjos, Cole Schwarz and Hunter Beaudoin teamed to take eighth in the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Astoria's 400-yard freestyle girls relay team (Hannah Whisler, Malysa Baxter, Niquelle Baxter, Clara Weidman) took eighth in the prelims, and Jon Sprouse was eighth (1:04.08) in the 100-yard backstroke preliminary.
