The Lower Columbia Youth Soccer Association will be hosting an Advanced Player Camp, Monday through Friday next week at the Warrenton Soccer Complex.

The Advanced Player Camp is an opportunity for players to experience new coaching techniques and get a jump on the fall season.

The camp curriculum is prepared by Jim Flint, who lived in Astoria from 1984 to '89 and is a former president of the LCYSA.

Flint recently retired and has moved back to Astoria. He has coached soccer 25 years at all levels: recreational, Classic, Select, high school, Olympic Development Program (ODP), and ODP District IV teams for the past seven years. His former players include current professionals in at least four countries, more than 50 collegians, and more than 15 regional and national team players.

Positive Camp Aspects include being fundamentally strong and confident with the ball, and individual skill and possession training. Local coaches are invited to attend at no cost.

The camp runs from 5 to 8 p.m. each day. Participants should bring a ball and shin guards. Participants must be high school players in the fall of 2005. College players are also welcome.

Cost is $80, or $16 per day if not attending all five days.
