Over the weekend of Aug 23 to 25, the Osprey, the LCYSA U12 Boys Classic team, won the Directors Mortgage Summer Slam Bronze Division for their age group.

In the pivotal third match against Camas/Washougal Shock that sent the Osprey to the championship game, the players proved their character. After falling behind 0-1 early, they fought back only to fall behind 1-2, and again at 2-3 at the half.

In the 38th minute of the 60-minute match, Westin Carter hit the equalizer that was set up by an inspired challenge won by teammate Robert Pina.

Michael Postlewait added the go-ahead goal at 46 minutes with Gavin Abbott adding an insurance goal at 51 minutes. The goals were set up by fine assists from Clayton Fitzer and Ismayil Abdoulaye. Defensive work from Evan Randall and Julio Ortiz allowed the offense to get it going in the second half.

In the championship match against Vancouver West Scorpions, things were all Osprey. Dodger Holmstedt took the Osprey’s first shot on goal just 33 seconds into the match. This was the first of six saves the Scorpions keepers tallied. Postlewait hit the back of the net at 19 minutes, fed by an assist from Riley Cameron. The score stood at 1-0 at the break.

The second half scoring got under way at 37 minutes when Postlewait scored his second goal of the match from 12 yards out. Westin Carter earned his first goal of his hat-trick at 40 minutes fed by an assist by Shrey Sharma. Carter scored again at 44 minutes, this time Gavin Abbott had the assist. The match’s last goal was scored by Carter in the 49th minute.

The 5-0 shutout in the champion match was the result of a defensive effort by Julio Ortiz, Kegan Rascoe, Leo Matthews and Dalton Byrd. The Osprey keepers, Ismayil Abdoulaye and Brooks Fromwiller, fielded only one shot on goal during the match.
