Tillamook 2, Seaside 1
SEASIDE Cowapa League boys soccer is now open for business, as league play began Tuesday night with two games on the North Coast.
While the Fishermen were busy handling Yamhill-Carlton, Tillamook escaped Seaside with a 2-1 win over the Gulls at Broadway Field.
The Cheesemakers scored a pair of first-half goals and fought off a more aggressive Seaside team in the second half for the win.
It took just two minutes and 40 seconds for Tillamook to find the back of the net, as a left-footed shot from senior Ernesto Mondragon from 15 yards out at the near post gave the Mooks a quick 1-0 lead.
The teams exchanged corner kicks, which came up empty, before Tillamook scored in the 19th minute. Senior Philippe Josi put a foot on a loose ball off a missed shot and scored from close range.
The Gulls came out with more energy in the second half, and it paid off with a goal just over a minute into the half.
Marshall Ferre took control of a ball on the left side, and fired a shot to the far post, where it snuck in for Seasides lone goal.
The Gulls had other opportunities, including a free kick from Soren Johannson that sailed over the crossbar, and Ferre misfired on a breakaway late in the game.
