ELGIN - Elgin broke open a close game with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Tuesday, to post an 11-1 win over Warrenton in a first-round game of the Class 3A state softball playoffs.

The Warriors committed seven errors in the game, including two costly errors that led to two runs for Elgin in the first inning.

Elgin had six hits and took advantage of three Warrenton errors in the sixth-inning rally.

Brooklyn Campbell pitched a complete game for the Warriors, allowing 10 hits with four strikeouts and two walks. She also had two of Warrenton's three hits. Emma Bussert had the other hit.

Elgin pitcher Tara Ludwig got the complete-game victory, striking out seven with one walk.

"The errors hurt us," said Warrenton coach Dionne Neahring. "And we just couldn't quite get the hits when we needed to.

"It was still a good learning experience for the girls," she said. "We don't have any seniors, so I get everybody back next year."
