Seaside 3, Rainier 1WARRENTON - Second-half goals from Micah Cerelli and Lauren Yokum broke a 1-1 halftime tie and helped the Seaside girls soccer team defeat Rainier 3-1 in a Cowapa League match Thursday.

Cerelli scored two goals for the Gulls, who are now 2-0-1 in league play.

"We looked much better tonight," said Seaside coach Dave Rouse. "We've still got some players out injured or sick, but we played well. Hazel Owens and Abby Frank both had great games, and Ashley Mersereau did a good job for us."

Cerelli scored her first goal just two minutes into the game off a long shot from the right side on an assist from Yokum.

Rainier scored at the 10-minute mark of the first half to tie it, but Cerelli scored eight minutes into the second half when she found the net from 15 yards out, unassisted.

Yokum added the insurance goal with eight minutes left in the game, on an assist from Frank.

Seaside (4-1-2 overall) plays at Kelso Saturday, and resumes league play Oct 3, when the Gulls host longtime state champions Catlin Gabel.

Astoria 0, Scappoose 0SCAPPOOSE - The Astoria and Scappoose girls soccer teams played as even as you can get Thursday night, as the two teams tied 0-0 in the Cowapa League match at Scappoose.

"It was a pretty even game," said Astoria coach Norm Wentworth, as his team moves to 0-7-1 overall. "Both of our goalies were injured, so I stuck Yensy Raya in, and she had her shutout.

"(The Indians) came out and played a much tougher second half, but I didn't feel they had any good shots on goal. In the closing minutes, we had the ball in front of their goal quite a bit, but just couldn't get it in."

Astoria plays at Catlin Gabel Tuesday.
