Seaside 5, Tillamook 4

TILLAMOOK — Seaside kept pace with Astoria atop the Cowapa League baseball standings with a 5-4 win at Tillamook Monday.

The Gulls improved to 2-0 in league play, as a clutch relief pitching performance by Aaron Tadei allowed Seaside to hold off a Tillamook rally in the bottom of the seventh.

Seaside scored two runs (both on wild pitches) in the top of the seventh to build a 5-3 lead.

The Cheesemakers rallied in their final at-bat, as they scored a run, then loaded the bases with just one out. That’s when Tadei took the mound, and struck out the next two batters to end the game.

Danny Leary had a two-run double for the Gulls in the fourth inning, and Nick Richardson added a run-scoring double.

The Gulls finished with five hits off the Mooks, while three Seaside pitchers (Kevin LaCoste, Justin White and Tadei) limited Tillamook to just three hits.

White picked up the win, while Tadei earned the save for Seaside, which plays at Banks today. The Braves scored a 6-4 win over Scappoose Monday. Tillamook hosts Astoria today.
