TIGARD - A local soccer team made a successful showing at the Chinook Cup, Aug. 22-24.
The Tsunamis, a U-12 boys' Classic team representing the Lower Columbia Youth Soccer Association (LCYSA), lost their first two games, but bounced back in the consolation bracket to earn the winners' medals.
In the final, held at Tigard High School, the Tsunamis defeated ESU Lobos of Portland, 4-1. The team members received their medals from four members of the women's national soccer team from Ghana, which is in the Pacific Northwest preparing for the Women's World Cup.
The Tsunamis include players from Astoria, Warrenton, Gearhart, Seaside and Cannon Beach.
Team members are Brandon Aydt, Henry Broderick, Evan Cain, James Carey, Dakota Davies, Lujac DeSautel, Jon Fick, Patrick Gaffney, Erik Johansson, Jair Macareno, Will Meyer, Seth Pincetich, Ricky Sarin, Vincent Sproul, Mark Ulbricht and Cole Willard.
The Tsunamis are coached by Mauro Macareno and Dan Gaffney. They open their regular season Sept. 7.
