RAINIER, Wash. - Cameo Ulbricht won three ribbons and Evin LaPlatney was the highest boy finisher with a third place finish in the 17-team Rainier (Washington) Ice Breaker track meet there Saturday. Ulbricht was fifth in the 800, seventh in the 400 and eighth in the 100 meter runs as she earned all seven of the Lady Fishermen's points in the opening meet of the season.

LaPlatney was third in the 400 in a time of 54.53, bringing home a medal and he also ran a leg of the 4x400 relay team for the Fishermen that earned a fifth-place ribbon. Taylor Odneal, Mitchel Mortenson and Brandon Malmstadt also ran in a time of 4:02.34. Earning sixth place in the 1,600 meter run was Tanner Weidner with a time of 5:14.92.

Ilwaco boys finished in a tie for 12th place with Wahkiakum with 13 points and the Lady Fishermen were 16th with seven team points. River Ridge won the boys' competition with 143.5 points and was also the top girls' team with 117 points.

Ulbricht's time in the 100 was 14.06, she ran the 400 in 1:09.48 and finished the 800 in 2:42.27. Breanna Breckinridge was 14th in the 100 hurdles and she competed in the high jump. Rissa Gerke was 11th in the 300 hurdles and 16th in the 100 hurdles and Anna Gerke was 13th in the shot put and 10th in the discus for the Lady Fishermen. Nicole Meyer was 12th in the 300 meter hurdles and 24th in the discus.

Malmstadt was ninth in the 200 and 11th in the 100 meter dash as a freshman for Ilwaco. LaPlatney was ninth in the 800 and Mortenson finished 10th in the 1,600. Owen Sutherland was 16th in the 800 for the Fishermen, Odneal was 20th in the 400, Josh Schenk was 21st in the 200 and in the long jump, and Bobby Richards claimed 24th in the 3,200.

Nate Moore was 11th in the 110 hurdles and 26th in the long jump and Eli Schenk was 13th in the 110 hurdles, 14th in the 300 hurdles, and 18th in the triple jump. Ryan Edwards was 18th in the shot put, Elias Blume was 24th and 22nd in the discus and Travis Malmstadt was 12th in the javelin and Odneal 13th. Zack Wilson competed in the discus and Odneal, Edwards, Hinojosa and Brandon Malmstadt earned 11th in the 4x100 relay for the boys.

Coach Sarah Taylor said, "Cameo scored well for us in the 100, 400 and 800 and Rissa Gerke set personal bests in her hurdle events. Anna Gerke threw well for us, but did not place in the big meet as she had hoped. Brandon Malmstadt had an excellent first meet as a freshman and Bobby Richards had a personal record in the 1,600. Evin LaPlatney brought home our only medal (top three finishers) in the 400 and also earned points for our team in the 800 and relay."
