Vandergriff, Lewis-Allen score victories at track meet

PORTLAND — Schools from the Northwest League gathered for a “predistrict” meet Thursday at Portland Christian, in preparation for next week’s District 1/2A meet, which will also be at Portland Christian.

The highest scoring teams in Thursday’s meet were the Portland Christian boys and the Nestucca girls, while the Knappa boys placed eighth out of 10 teams, and the Lady Loggers were fifth in the girls’ standings.

Knappa managed to score two individual victories.

Devin Vandergriff – one of only two freshmen competing in the 400 meters – won the event in 1 minute, 4.68 seconds. She was also second in the 200 meters (28.53).

Knappa’s foursome of Chelsea Sapp, Alisha Geisler, Vandergriff and Angeleen Somoza finished second in the 400-meter relay (53.95).

On the boys’ side, Knappa junior Devin Lewis-Allen won the 400 in 52.40. Lewis-Allen is the No. 1-ranked runner in the 400 at the 2A level. Teammate Mitch Whiteside was third in the 110-meter hurdles (18.42).


Gulls, Mooks postponed

Thursday’s Seaside at Tillamook baseball game was postponed, and will be played at 5 p.m. Monday, at Tillamook.


Classic Soccer tryouts set

Classic Soccer team tryouts for all boys and girls entering fifth to eighth grades are from 4 to 5:30 p.m. June 1 and 6 to 7:30 p.m. June 3 at the Warrenton Soccer Fields.

The Classic Soccer program through the Lower Columbia Youth Soccer Association is for skilled and motivated players who desire a higher level of competition than the recreational soccer program.   Designed for girls and boys ages 10 to 14.

Athletes should come to the fields on at least one of the tryout dates.

• Come dressed to play soccer.

• Bring a birth certificate/proof of age.
