R.A. Long 57, Warrenton 43LONGVIEW, Wash. - Four R.A. Long players outscored the entire Warrenton team Monday night, in a nonleague girls basketball game.
Rachel Irwin scored 14 points to lead four players in double figures for the Jills as they defeated the Warriors 57-43 in a game originally scheduled for Jan. 6.
R.A. Long's Mallory Griffin scored 12 points, Stefa Chow added 11 and Shawnda Kerr chipped in 10 for the Jills, who used a 16-7 run in the third quarter to pull away from the Warriors.
"We just sort of went through the motions tonight," said Warrenton coach John Mattilla. "We had some good individual efforts. They all played well at times. We just didn't put it all together. It was not a very smooth team effort."
"The same thing happened last year at about this time," he said. "We came out flat for one game and played poorly. So hopefully we have it out of our way, and we can come out and play better (Wednesday, at home) against Vernonia."
Rose Dugan scored 10 points to lead Warrenton, while Olivia Newbold and Gracie Smith scored eight points apiece. Warrenton (10-3 overall) outrebounded R.A. Long 38-27, but the Warriors hit just 15-of-55 field goals, and 13-of-25 free throw attempts.
