Woodland 49, Ilwaco 14ILWACO, Wash. - Woodland's Justin Leonard rushed for 229 yards on 19 carries, and two onside kicks by the Beavers helped Woodland to a 49-14 victory at Ilwaco Tuesday night.
The Trico League game was originally scheduled for earlier in the season before an outbreak of viral meningitis at Ilwaco High School forced the postponement.
Woodland held a 27-6 halftime lead, thanks in part to two touchdown runs by Leonard and a 17-yard scoring scramble by Beaver quarterback Paul Benjamin.
Woodland opened the second half with an onside kick, and the Beavers recovered and scored on the drive to build a 35-14 lead.
The Beavers performed another onside kick on the ensuing kickoff, recovered and scored again; and followed that with another onside kick, which was recovered by Ilwaco.
Tony Crete scored two touchdowns for the Fishermen, both on passes from Ryan Cadwell.
Cadwell completed 8-of-18 passes for 72 yards, while Crete caught four for 35 yards.
Ilwaco plays Saturday at Ridgefield.
